INSURANCE GUIDES / EXPLAINED

Insurance start times and expiry dates

Why an exact time matters when arranging cover for a short trip.

THE SHORT VERSION

Why an exact time matters when arranging cover for a short trip.

01 / THE DETAILS

The time is part of the contract

A temporary policy is not simply labelled by a calendar day. A start at 14:00 and a finish at another specific time may create a different window from what a driver expects. Read both timestamps exactly as displayed.

02 / THE DETAILS

Think about delays and handovers

Collections, appointments and return journeys sometimes run late. Choose an appropriate period and have a plan if circumstances change. If cover is about to expire, arrange any new coverage before continuing to drive.

03 / THE DETAILS

Keep proof of any changes

Changes and renewals may need the insurer’s acceptance. A new quote does not extend an existing contract, and a request for help does not alter the expiry time until the provider confirms it.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does insurance start as soon as I press Pay?

Not necessarily. The insurer-confirmed start time governs.

Will an unfinished quote hold the start time?

No. A draft quote is not a binding insurance contract.
