INSURANCE GUIDES / EXPLAINED

How the motor insurance database works

Understanding insurance records, checks and the time it can take for updates.

THE SHORT VERSION

Understanding insurance records, checks and the time it can take for updates.

01 / THE DETAILS

Who maintains the record?

Insurers and authorised reporting partners submit insurance data to the relevant official motor insurance systems. GreenOnMID is an independent insurance website and does not run the official Motor Insurers’ Bureau, askMID or Navigate service.

02 / THE DETAILS

Why records may appear later

A newly issued policy and a database update are distinct steps. Records may not update instantly, so an initial missing entry does not always settle whether an insurer has issued valid cover. Use the insurer’s documentation and contact its support team for discrepancies.

03 / THE DETAILS

What to do if the details look wrong

Check the registration and policy dates carefully. Ask the insurer or authorised policy provider whether a record has been submitted and what action is appropriate. Avoid using unofficial services that claim to add a vehicle directly to official records.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Can GreenOnMID manually update the official database?

No. That is the responsibility of insurers and their authorised reporting partners.

Does a database entry replace an insurance certificate?

No. The insurer’s actual policy terms and schedule still matter.
